The BSS Fellows Teaching Program, is a teaching program meant for ‘short & long term Fellows’ affiliated with various BSS Members and associated with various hospitals in & around Mumbai. The teaching program was started in 2019-2020 with the aim to teach the Fellows about the basics of spine surgery, application of spinal knowledge in OPD practice, decision making about various treatment modalities and discussion of various surgical and non-surgical options.

The program is an interactive session usually conducted once a month in either any educational or tertiary Institute. In each program one relevant spinal topic is handled. The format is more of case presentations based on the topic, and a couple of didactic lectures, the cases are usually presented by the fellows attending so there is active interaction of all.

The topics are usually those encountered in daily spine practice. The spectrum of discussion included a wide variety of topics including degenerative spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, minimally invasive spinal surgery, spinal tumours and osteoporosis. With active interaction between the faculty and fellows each topic is thoroughly discussed. Each teaching program involved 3-4 senior faculty and about 15-20 fellows.

Active participation by all Fellows is noted. The most distinctive part of this monthly arrangement was the ease with which the fellows could clear their doubts with the faculties.

In 2019, the training program for fellows under the Bombay Spine Society was conducted once every month at K. E. M. Hospital. The monthly teaching program was discontinued in March 2020 due to the pandemic and resumed in October 2020. Anyone interested in joining the meeting can contact the committee members.
